Some sights from Quarantine

These are some photographs, in reverse order, of some of the sights of the COVID quarantine of 2020 in Northwest Pennsylvania.

October 10, 2020 Day 215
More funny sign at the local bagel place

October 1, 2020 Day 206
The local voldemart is back to allowing people in both doors instead of one entrance and one exit. You still can't get a lot of cleaning supplies.

   September 27, 2020 Day 203
We're finally back to church. At least, church in the parking lot over an FM radio frequency. Also, the local pharmacy is taking no chances on running out of toilet paper any time soon.

September 22, 2020 Day 197
In which we discover the existence of the camp cat, and we are all ridiculously delighted.

September 15, 2020 Day 184
Where did I see this sign? IDK. It was funny tho.

August 17, 2020 Day 155

Peach salsa, because who doesn't love peach salsa, and also, isn't canning a natural response in a pandemic/ peach season? The hand sanitizer is back in stock at the local pharmacy, in all shapes, sizes and brands, but you can't get hand soap today! Also, the TP situation is such that we're resorting to bamboo TP? The sign said "unknown brand"

August 8, 2020 - 5 ish months of Covidtide
At a friend's very small birthday celebration. Getting this mug was super exciting
(but that's usually my face in photographs)

August 1, 2020
Obviously I wasn't really going anywhere after surgery. This was my first real outing in a month. This local establishment was serious about social distancing in their parking lot and in their store, with X's marked six feet apart for patrons to wait at.

Wherein I feel like I've been hit with a ton of bricks
July 6, 2020 Quarantine day 115 - Surgery in the time of COVID. By now, procedures were allowed if patients passed COVID screening. For same day surgery, one responsible adult companion is permitted to accompany the patient to the hospital for the procedure. Temperatures are scanned at hospital entry, and masks are required for all persons. I wore a fabric mask until just prior to the procedure, when a disposable one was provided.  Mask wearing was apparently less mandatory for patients post procedure, though I masked up when it was time to go home.

July 4, 2020 Quarantine Day 113 - The conversation about safety and returning to face-to-face instruction in the fall heats up on social media. On a more personal note, my 62 year old uncle calls this day. A teacher in NY state, he had just received word that he was exposed to COVID a week prior during a face to face meeting of teachers and administration when an asymptomatic administrator did not socially distance or wear a mask indoors during faculty meetings regarding the reopening of school and related procedures. Also at risk are my 90 and 94 year old grandparents, who reside with my uncle. We are angry beyond words.

Friday June 26, 2020 Quarantine day 105 - campus remains deserted except for town folk utilizing the space for outdoor exercise, and business are advertising their reopen on Monday, June 29th when the county is officially 'green'

June 18, 2020 Quarantine day 97 - WalMart is still out of many canned vegetables. Also, there was a run on packaged ramen.

June 12, 2020 Quarantine Day 91 - Our first pilgrimage to WalMart in over 90 days. They're out of certain canned vegetables. The fabric section is decimated.

June 9, 2020 Quarantine day 88 - Wegman's. The floral department, which had been taken down early in the quarantine, makes a welcome comeback.

June 6, 2020 Quarantine Day 85 - Tractor Supply. They're out of birdseed. Being stuck at home, many people have turned to feeding the birds for entertainment. The stock person at the Tractor Supply is a little incredulous about this development.

May 27, 2020 Quarantine day  75 - Grocery stores and other retailers have begun adding 'directional shopping guidelines in an effort to help shoppers social distance. It's not enforced, and many people are either unaware of the signage or don't care.

May 24, 2020 - On further reflection, the vegetable garden isn't big enough, so more beds are added.

May 22, 2020 - Quarantine day 70. Talk of food shortages other than meat continues. Many with little experience gardening plant 'victory' vegetable gardeners.

May 19, 2020 Quarantine day 67 - Dollar General is stocked with toilet paper and paper towels for the first time since March. Tissues, Lysol, and isopropyl alcohol are not to be had.

May 11, 2020 - COVID caught up with the meat packing industry, and the effects are being felt by the consumer. Limits are also placed on other popular foods such as plain pasta, boxed mac and cheese, and canned baked beans.

May 9, 2020 - People are looking for masks in all shapes and sizes. Some folks are selling them for $15/mask, others for
$5. Skinny elastic is almost impossible to find at the store, and takes up to three weeks to receive by mail.

May 7, 2020 Quarantine day 55 -  a little brevity at the grocery store

April 30, 2020 - good luck finding Lysol. Also missing from store shelves: toilet paper, tissues, paper towels, rubbing alcohol, and peroxide.

April 24, 2020 - calls for mask donations begin making the rounds on social media

April 22, 2020 Masks for a hospital in Michigan
April 16, 2020 - we're wearing masks, we guess? No one seems to know. Hospitals are calling for PPE donations. Also, the deadline to file taxes was extended to July.

March 29, 2020 - Campus has been closed for a week, and students have been told to stay home. A beaver is seen swimming in the lake on campus
March 27, 2020. Stay-at-Home orders issued for select PA counties.

March 22, 2020. Dollar General. First we'd seen toilet paper in a week.

March 13, 2020. COVID has been increasingly in the news. The university goes on spring break. Friday morning, it's unclear yet if in person classes will resume when break is over; by Friday afternoon, the decision to close campus 'indefinitely', as well as many other public schools, is made.
